In this episode, I’m breaking down how deeply the media has shaped our perception of alcohol. From scripted shows to reality TV, we’re constantly shown characters using alcohol to cope, unwind, survive stress, or numb uncomfortable emotions — and it’s all presented as totally normal.I explore how these repeated storylines influence our beliefs about drinking, why they make alcohol feel like an expected part of adulthood, and whether our society would have such a complicated relationship with alcohol if we weren’t shown this behavior everywhere we look. This is a conversation about awareness, culture, and the subtle messages that impact the way we drink ...often without us even realizing it.***Online Support Group: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1Bir1P7Rza/

I'm hoping that these 4 mentality shifts can help you think of sobriety in a simpler way. My favorite one: all we have to do to stay sober is NOT drink... we don't have to DO anything! Simple right? If you’re squeamish, maybe skip this one -we’re diving into the very NOT glamorous side of having a drinking problem: digestive issues. My gut was a mess when I drank, and “food poisoning” was basically a weekly event. But after quitting, it healed almost instantly, and now when something’s off, I actually know what it is because alcohol isn’t muddying the waters. Digestive peace is honestly such a blessing, and it feels like I've cracked the code to life.

I hate the phrase "I need a drink" with every fiber of my being... and that phrase is almost guaranteed to be in every movie & tv show you watch. How the media portrays alcohol has a huge impact on society, whether we realize it or not. Hold My Drink is now The Sober Scoop :) Starting Tuesday, all new episodes will be under the new name, so please make sure to subscribe/follow so you don't miss anything when the name changes over. Backstory on the name change below!---Why the change? There is another podcast called Hold My Drink that is actually quite famous... the confusion between our two pages has already begun, so while the podcast is still new, I wanted to distinguish our show & also avoid any copyright/ trademark issues down the road. I also wanted a name with the word "sober" in it, so people could easily find it when searching for sobriety content on spotify/apple/etc. And the cherry on top... I love the name maybe even MORE than 'hold my drink.' Prepare yourself for all the ice cream puns with "scoop" haha! Anyways, thanks for being here & I hope you like the new name.Join our FB Group: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1DiuyGTVtz/ 15% off Moment Adaptogen Drinks: https://drinkmomentaffiliate.superfiliate.com10% off N/A wines/ Cocktails: https://zeroproofshop.superfiliate.com/

There really shouldn’t even be a word for a “non-drinker.” We’re just living a normal & unaltered life, and it’s so weird that we have to constantly explain ourselves when we’re literally not doing anything! When I quit drinking, I instantly felt so connected with my body. I would have these strong cravings for fruit or red meat, and I could feel when I was dehydrated or hungry. These were all new feelings to me, since I used to numb all of that with alcohol. I have gotten so in-tune with my body and have truly fallen in love with my mind-body connection, and keeping my body in a natural state is how I connect with what's going on inside. So in my sobriety, I've chosen to let my body do the work.
