Description: 100 years ago this week, the New York Public Library opened a special collection at its 135th Street branch in Harlem called the Division of Negro Literature, History and Prints, now known as the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. On May 8, the Schomburg Center opens a new exhibition, "100: A Century of Collections, Community, and Creativity." Director Joy Bivins discusses the history of the Center, Arturo Schomburg's legacy, and plans for the centennial celebration.
