Does Watson Really Have the Inside Track After All?
Podcast: The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima
Published On: Thu Aug 13 2026
Description: Ken and Anthony replay Mary Kay Cabot's assessment that Deshaun Watson has "the slight edge" in the QB race and debate whether that means the job is essentially his to lose, with Ken warming to the idea given what she described about the lack of real separation between the two quarterbacks so far. They push back on the theory that fan boos are driving the decision, with Ken arguing loudly that a real head coach cannot care about what radio hosts or fans in the stands think and has to build the roster with only winning in mind. Owen raises a hypothetical about polling the actual players and defenders on which quarterback scares them more in practice reps, sparking debate over whether locker room trust matters as much as the coach's evaluation, with Johnny Manziel brought up as a cautionary example of a pick players never bought into.
