Description: California rejected 148,241 mail ballots in its June 2026 primary, the highest total in recent comparable elections. Nearly two-thirds of those rejections resulted from late ballots, and election experts suspect postal-service postmark issues and last-minute voting may be major contributors. The spike has raised concerns despite California's extensive efforts to make voting more accessible. After Amazon and other Pacific Northwest companies pledged matching donations, the fundraiser grew into a community-wide effort that generated more than $58,000 for the Ballard Food Bank, turning an internet-famous raccoon into an unexpected force for good.
