Description: Slam the Gavel welcomes Dawn Wolfson to the podcast. Dawn Wolfson was already a follower of the work being done by the Innocence Project when her own family was hit by a FALSE ACCUSATION four years ago. A family member who was about to start his senior year of High School - he was a SPECIAL EDUCATION student - met a girl through a mutual friend. During a sleepover, they had relations, and for reasons the family may NEVER know, she ACCUSED him of rape.      From the start he did everything wrong by trying to contact her online to find out what was going on, apologizing on a text and didn't tell family members until after he was questioned at his school by law enforcement.     This was the beginning of an eye opening 2.5 year journey through the legal system. However the family was one of the lucky ones where they had retirement savings and found a great lawyer who also knew a very motivated investigator. He then tracked down enough witnesses to create doubt on the accuser's story. The DA dropped the charges.     However, shortly after the charges were dropped, Dawn met a man who was involved in NCFM (an organization that is involved in fighting false accusations against men). He had gotten Dawn involved in the NCFM women's group -  which had spun off into a new organization of fighting false accusations called Advocates Against the Falsely Accused and another group, D3: Decriminalize Developmental Disabilities (formerly LRIDD) that is fighting for changes to how the legal system treats people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.    Dawn talked about recent reforms such as California and Illinois law prohibiting DECEPTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT INTERROGATION ON MINORS, and a similar Pennsylvania law prohibiting the same practices on the developmentally disabled. This gives Dawn hope that CHANGE IS POSSIBLE.
