They were both federal government employees until one day they both just up-and-quit their jobs and worked toward the path for FIRE, and retired at the age of 39. For parents with two young kids to be able to retire at 39 took a lot of planning and intentional decision-making. And it all began in 2011, when they embraced the FIRE movement. In pursuing FIRE, they constantly thought of creative ways to make and save extra money to invest.
