Podcast:Moms and Mysteries: A True Crime Podcast Published On: Tue Feb 04 2025 Description: On the night of March 4, 2008, 18-year-old Auburn University student Lauren Burk was found on Highway 147 in Lee County, Alabama—naked, bleeding, and fighting for her life. She had been shot in the back and thrown from a moving vehicle. Despite desperate efforts to save her, Lauren died at the hospital. Her car was found burning near the Auburn campus. An iPod belonging to Lauren and a revolver were recovered during the investigation, leading police to Courtney Lockhart, a man with no significant criminal history but a string of recent armed robberies. Lockhart had forced Lauren into her own car at gunpoint, robbed her, stripped her of her clothing, shot her, and pushed her out of the moving vehicle. He then set her car on fire to destroy evidence. Courtney Lockhart was convicted of Lauren's murder and sentenced to death. Despite multiple appeals, his conviction and sentence have been upheld. This episode tells the story of Lauren Burk—a bright, beloved young woman whose life was stolen by a violent criminal—and the father who fought for justice for his daughter.
