Mama Bear Apologetics
Mama Bear Apologetics

<p>Mama Bear Apologetics is a podcast for mothers of biological, adopted, or spiritual children who want to learn about how to defend the Christian faith, help give their children reasons for faith, and understand the worldviews that challenge Christian faith in the first place.</p>

This episode lovingly equips parents to navigate the tension between fun Easter traditions and the truth of the resurrection. The hosts affirm that while eggs, bunnies, and cultural practices can be enjoyed, they should never overshadow the central claim of Christianity: Jesus truly lived, died, and rose again. Lindsey and Robin address common internet claims about Easter’s supposed pagan origins, showing that much of the argument rests on weak historical evidence and linguistic confusion. The conversation then shifts to the heart of apologetics—can we trust the resurrection? Through historical references, medical analysis of crucifixion, and eyewitness testimony, the hosts build a compelling case that the resurrection is not just symbolic—it is reality.Ultimately, the message is clear: parents can confidently teach their children both the joy of traditions and the truth of the gospel, without fear that one cancels out the other.Main Points CoveredBalancing Easter traditions with biblical truthClaims about pagan origins of EasterLinguistic origins of the word “Easter”Historical reliability of the crucifixionRefuting alternative theories (swoon, hallucination, body theft)Teaching apologetics to childrenPeople and resources mentionedThe Case for Christ - Lee StrobelThe Case for Easter - Lee StrobelRisen (film)Children’s ResourcesMelissa Cain Travis – How Do We Know Jesus Is Alive?Scripture ReferencesMatthew 27 – Crucifixion and resurrection narrative1 Corinthians 15:3–7 – Early creed and eyewitnessesMore from Mama BearCheck out our websiteBuy the Mama Bear Apologetics book (affiliate link)Join Our Email ListHave Us Speak at Your EventFollow us on social media FacebookXInstagramWant to support our ministry?Donate Here—Editing and Support by The Good Podcast Co. If you are interested in being a supporting sponsor of the show, please email sponsor@thegoodpodcast.co
In this episode, the focus is on worldviews—the lens through which people interpret reality. Tricia Scribner explains that everyone has a worldview, whether they realize it or not, and that lens shapes how we answer life’s biggest questions. The discussion centers on three foundational worldviews: theism, atheism, and pantheism, and how each one answers six essential questions about life: origins, identity, meaning, morality, knowledge, and destiny. By learning these six questions, parents can train their children to recognize the assumptions behind the messages they hear in music, social media, classrooms, and entertainment.Rather than passively absorbing cultural ideas, kids can learn to ask thoughtful questions: Where does this worldview say we came from? What does it say about who we are? What does it claim about right and wrong? Teaching children to evaluate ideas this way helps them identify inconsistencies and recognize when a belief system doesn’t align with reality. The episode also warns about syncretism, the common cultural habit of mixing beliefs from different religions into a personalized system that “feels right.” The Mama Bears remind listeners that conflicting truth claims cannot all be true at the same time. Training our children to examine worldview foundations helps them avoid being swept along by persuasive cultural messaging.By giving kids these tools early, parents can raise children who think critically, recognize faulty ideas, and remain grounded in a biblically consistent understanding of reality.Main Points CoveredWhat a worldview is and why it mattersThe analogy of worldviews as glasses or filters for interpreting realityThe three foundational worldviews: theism, atheism, and pantheismThe six worldview questions every belief system must answerHow these questions help children evaluate cultural messagesThe problem of syncretism (mixing belief systems)Practical ways to teach worldview thinking to kids and teensPeople and resources mentionedThe Universe Next Door — by James SireA Practical Guide to Culture — John Stonestreet & Brett KunkleTactics — by Greg KouklScripture ReferencesGenesis 1:27Romans 2:14–15Hebrews 9:27Thanks to Our SponsorsThe Every Woman’s Bible is a study Bible created for both the heart and the mind—because loving God well means engaging truth deeply. In this episode, the Mama Bears continue laying the groundwork for raising children who can stand firm in a culture that often sounds persuasive but isn’t logically sound. The focus is on self-refuting (or self-defeating) statements — claims that collapse under their own weight because they contradict themselves in the very act of being spoken. Our kids are growing up in a world saturated with emotionally charged slogans and viral soundbites. They are told things like “truth is relative,” “we can’t know truth,” or “science is the only source of truth.” These statements are often presented as intellectual or compassionate, but when examined carefully, they fail to meet their own standards. They saw off the very branch they’re sitting on. If our children are not trained to recognize these inconsistencies, they can be carried along by ideas that feel right but are logically incoherent. As the episode highlights, kids spend hours a day absorbing messages through social media and classroom conversations. Without discernment, emotion becomes the driver and truth becomes negotiable. The Mama Bears remind us that truth corresponds to reality, truth is objective, and truth is knowable — even though we, as finite humans, are not omniscient. There is a crucial difference between saying truth is knowable and claiming we can know everything. That humility matters. We don’t need exhaustive knowledge to make reasonable, evidence-based conclusions about reality or about God. The goal is not to embarrass, but to clarify. Not to win arguments, but to help our children think clearly and stand confidently. When we teach our kids to identify self-defeating claims, we are equipping them with intellectual armor. We are raising children who can be empathetic without being manipulated, thoughtful without being timid, and bold without being brash. In a culture that rewards outrage and discourages logic, that kind of training is both countercultural and deeply necessary.Main Points CoveredWhat self-refuting statements are and how they functionWhy recognizing them strengthens your child’s faithCommon modern examples rooted in relativism and scientismHow to correct faulty logic with both confidence and gracePeople and resources mentionedThe Pig and the Accidental OinkCrows and the Missing PieceThe Fallacy DetectiveThe Tuttle Twins Guide to Logical FallaciesTactics by Greg KouklEphesians 6:10–18 (The Armor of God)Genesis 1:27 (Made in the image of God)Thanks to Our SponsorsThe Every Woman’s Bible is a study Bible created for both the heart and the mind—because loving God well means engaging truth deeply. Amy and Tricia continue their classical apologetics series, diving into discursive reasoning—the step-by-step thinking process that distinguishes humans as rational beings made in God’s image. This conversation is a mental workout (in the best way possible!). The mamas unpack the difference between deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning. They emphasize that Christianity does not require blind faith—it calls us to love God with our minds and think well. With practical examples—from the cosmological argument to presidential debates, to lipstick on the wall—the mamas show how logic protects our children from being swayed by emotional manipulation and faulty reasoning. This episode reminds us: Good thinking is discipleship. In this foundational episode of the Mama Bear Apologetics podcast Amy Davison and Tricia Scribner tackle the concept of truth in an age dominated by relativism and subjectivism. Drawing from Scripture, personal anecdotes, and years of experience in apologetics and teaching, the conversation provides a powerful defense of truth as objective, absolute, and rooted in God’s nature. The episode dismantles cultural misconceptions like "my truth" and "perception is reality" and explains why these ideas, though popular, are intellectually inconsistent and dangerous. Amy and Tricia, two of our Mama Bears, define logic and explain why it’s essential for critical thinking, biblical reasoning, and defending the Christian faith. They stress that logic isn’t made by humans—it’s discovered—and reflects an objective reality that testifies to the existence of God. The conversation explores the three foundational laws of logic (identity, excluded middle, non‑contradiction), shows how logic applies in everyday life and worldview discussions (including gender, truth claims, language, and worldview differences), and gives practical guidance for parents on how to help children recognize sound reasoning vs. faulty logic. They also tackle common challenges, including the relationship between logic and God, and how logic relates to knowing God, faith, and evangelism. Ultimately, logic is presented as both defensible and indispensable for meaningful Christian engagement in a culture that increasingly rejects objective truth.Main Points CoveredWhat Logic Is and Why It MattersThe Three Foundational Laws of LogicLogic vs. Emotionalism in CultureLogic’s Role in Knowing God and Defending FaithPractical Tools for Teaching Logic to KidsPeople and resources mentionedHow Has God Revealed Himself EpisodeThanks to Our SponsorsAirDoctor: AirDoctor comes with a 30-day money back guarantee so if you don’t love it, just send it back for a refund, minus shipping! In this episode of Mama Bear Apologetics, Amy hosts Krista Bontrager (a public theologian with decades of experience) to unpack why theology is foundational for Christian living. They define theology, remove intimidation around it, talk about practical ways families can study theology with kids, and point listeners to resources that make theology accessible. The big idea centers around this: theology equips Christians to think well about God so that apologetics isn’t just reactive but rooted in truth. They stress that theology is not just for “academics in tweed jackets,” is essential for discipling children, and that everyday families can begin with simple practices like reading the creeds, memorizing the Lord’s Prayer and the 10 Commandments, and building routines of Bible engagement together.Main Points CoveredWhat theology is and why everyone is a theologianWhy theology must precede apologeticsPractical ways to study theology personally and with childrenCommon pitfalls when approaching cultural issues without theological groundingPeople and resources mentionedIntro Theology & InterpretationBible Doctrine by Wayne GrudemIntroducing Christian Doctrine by Millard EricksonTheology for Today by Elmer TownsHow to Read the Bible for All Its Worth by Gordon Fee & Douglas StuartGuest ResourcesTheologyMom.com (Krista’s teaching & classes)Center for Biblical UnityThanks to Our SponsorsAquaTru: Go to AquaTru.com now for 20% off your purifier using promo code MBA. In this episode, Amy reflect on the season of Advent and how it points believers toward four core spiritual truths — hope, spiritual warfare (peace), worship (joy), and human dignity (love). Christmas is not about the trappings of the season (lights, gifts, cookies), but about celebrating the coming of Christ, renewing hope, engaging in the cosmic battle against evil, worshiping God, and affirming the value of every human life. She encourages listeners to live out these truths practically — through grief with hope, spiritual headship and discipleship at home, heartfelt worship amid busyness, and compassionate generosity toward the vulnerable — so that their families and communities reflect the gospel's transforming power.Main Points CoveredWhat is Advent?Hope in the midst of grief and brokennessSpiritual warfare: Christmas as a declaration of warWorship and joy beyond the superficialAffirmation of human dignity and unconditional lovePractical discipleship at homePeople and resources mentionedScriptures:Psalm 130:7Isaiah 40:31Romans 15:13John 16:21–22Matthew 14:22–33Ecclesiastes 3:2–4Philippians 4:6Colossians 2:82 Corinthians 10:5Colossians 3:15–17Luke 1:41Luke 1:46–50Luke 2:13Luke 2:201 Corinthians 10:31Hebrews 12:28Genesis 3Ezekiel 10Books:Daily Grace Co. In this episode, Amy is joined by Tricia Scribner, a classical apologist, to explore how we can know Christianity is true. They walk through a systematic, logical framework known as classical apologetics, beginning with the existence of truth and culminating in the evidence for Christ's resurrection and divinity. They compare this approach with cultural apologetics and emphasize the importance of understanding presuppositions in conversations about faith. The episode provides a high-level overview of the evidential and logical basis for Christianity’s truth claims and previews an upcoming series that will break down 20 evidences for the Christian faith.Main Points CoveredIntroduction to Classical vs. Cultural ApologeticsThe Role of Presuppositions in Truth ClaimsA Systematic Framework for Christian ApologeticsFulfilled Old Testament Prophecies about JesusReliability of the New Testament Documents:Common objectionsPeople and resources mentionedScriptures:1 Corinthians 15:3–8Isaiah 9 and 53Colossians 2John 2:19Books:Life Givers Apologetics by Tricia ScribnerI Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist by Norman Geisler & Frank TurekHow We Got the Bible by Greg LanierScribes and Scripture by Peter Gurry and John MeadeThanks to Our SponsorsPiper and Leaf: Check out their Advent Tea set and give yourself—or someone you love—a reason to pause, sip, and celebrate. On this episode, we are revisiting the concept of ghosts. Every year around this time, we start to see more depictions, decorations, and stories about ghosts —and your kids may be hearing more about them at school. But what are they? We will be examining the idea of ghosts using our ROAR method. What are they? What are the common misconceptions around ghosts and the supernatural? What does the bible say about ghosts and how are Christians supposed to engage this topic? Our hope is that you will be able to use the tools outlined in this episode to help the young ones in your care to be able to recognize the falsities in the messaging and be able to clearly defend their faith and protect their minds.Main Points CoveredHow does the world see ghosts? What is a ghost truly? How are we to interact with the truth and lies around “ghosts”?How can we navigate elements of the spiritual realm with our kids?People and resources mentionedEphesians 6:121 Thessalonians 5:23Ecclesiastes 12:7James 2:26Luke 16:19-31John 10:10Leviticus 19:31Isaiah 8:19-20Matthew 12:26Acts 19 - Seven Sons of ScevaTeen Vogue article on ghostsMBA Episode 87: The Rise in Occult Fascination Among Youth with Krista BontragerCults, World Religions, and the Occult by Kenneth BoaThe Occult by Josh McDowell and Don StewartThe Handbook for Spiritual Warfare by Dr Ed Murphy Thanks to Our SponsorsPiper and Leaf: Check out their Advent Tea set and give yourself—or someone you love—a reason to pause, sip, and celebrate. This episode of Mama Bear Apologetics explores the spiritual dangers behind the Enneagram and the teachings of Richard Rohr, particularly how they subtly oppose biblical Christianity. Amy is joined by fellow Mama Bear Alexa Cramer, who explains how Rohr redefines key Christian concepts like Jesus, sin, salvation, and the Bible itself. While Rohr’s language may sound Christian, his theology is rooted in mysticism, perennialism, and a pantheistic view of God—where all people and things are seen as inherently divine. The episode outlines how such teachings undermine the gospel and can mislead Christians, especially children, who may encounter the Enneagram in schools, churches, or online.Using Mama Bear’s “ROAR” method (Recognize, Offer objective discernment, Argue for a healthier approach, Reinforce), the conversation equips parents to help their children identify subtle theological errors, practice discernment, and defend a biblical worldview. The episode encourages parents to disciple their children by training them to think critically about spiritual claims, recognize redefined vocabulary, and affirm the unique truth of the gospel in a culture saturated with self-focused spirituality.Main Points CoveredThe ROAR method of discernmentRole of Richard Rohr in popularizing the Enneagram among ChristiansAnalysis of key quotes by RohrRohr’s theological frameworkImplications for evangelism, accountability, sanctificationCultural appeal of Enneagram and spiritual mysticism—especially for women and younger generationsPractical admonition: alertness to Enneagram with children in schools, churches, etc.Resources MentionedThe Enneagram blog series on Mama Bear ApologeticsMama Bear Apologetics Episode on the EnneagramDr. Groothuis, The Unmasking of the New Age (recommended for seeing how New Age ideas influence Rohr)Richard Rohr’s own books (e.g. The Universal Christ, The Divine Dance)Our SponsorsAquaTruGo to AquaTru.com now for 20% off your purifier using promo code MBA. Amy is joined by Tricia Scribner to encourage and equip grandparents for intentional discipleship. Using the cultural moment sparked by Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Tricia challenges older believers not to “pass the baton,” but to “get in the game.”Grandparents often underestimate their influence, yet they are among the top voices teens turn to for questions about faith and life. Tricia emphasizes that this season of life—with more free time and hard-earned wisdom—is ideal for re-engaging in spiritual formation. She counters the lies that older Christians “can’t learn” or are “no longer relevant,” offering practical ways to grow in apologetics, engage in conversations, and model critical thinking. Even when direct conversations aren’t possible due to strained family dynamics, Tricia shares creative approaches like journaling, writing in Bibles, and asking thoughtful questions. This episode is a call to action: your role in discipleship matters deeply. In this somber episode, we reflect on the tragic and violent loss of Charlie Kirk. Just hours before he was killed, Charlie shared his favorite verse—Romans 8:28—a verse that has become a guiding light for many through the grief and confusion left in the wake of his death. Our hope with this episode is to give parents some tools for walking through this tragedy with kids who may be affected by it. We offer a biblical framework for looking at it as well as some practical advice. We want to encourage families to grieve deeply, to lament biblically, and to pray boldly. We also want to point to the redemptive arc of God’s story—from creation to fall, from redemption in Christ to future glory. The God Charlie proclaimed is not silenced. This episode tackles the cultural lie of Best-Selfism — the belief that personal happiness and fulfillment should be the highest priorities in life, often at the expense of faith and family. Host Amy Davison argues that this ideology, endorsed by celebrities like Tom Brady and various influencers, is a destructive blend of emotionalism, self-help, and idol worship. Contrasting this worldview, they uplift Scotty Scheffler’s Christ-centered perspective, where faith and family take precedence over personal or professional success. The episode emphasizes the biblical model of self-denial, sacrificial love, and discipleship within the home.Main Points CoveredDefinition and Dangers of Best SelfismExamples in CultureBiblical Response to Best SelfismSpiritual and Cultural ConsequencesHow to Combat the Lie of Best-SelfismResources & Organizations MentionedScriptures:Genesis 3 – The original lie and temptationExodus 6:7 – God claiming His people1 Peter 2:9 – Our identity in Christ1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 6:20 – Transformation and honoring God with our bodiesMatthew 16:24 – Deny self and follow ChristMark 12:29-30, Deuteronomy 6:5 – Love God and neighborMatthew 28:19-20 – The Great CommissionDeuteronomy 6:6-9 – Discipleship in the homeColossians 2:8, 3:23-24 – Avoid deceptive philosophy, work for the Lord2 Corinthians 10:5 – Take every thought captive2 Timothy 1:7 – Spirit of power and self-discipline1 Peter 3:15 – Defend faith with gentlenessEphesians 5:21-33, 6:4 – Mutual submission and discipling childrenOther Resources:Scottie Scheffler StatementScheffler's Response to Tom BradyTom Brady's NewsletterOur SponsorsVoetberg Music Academy: When planning your school year this year, one thing you don’t have to worry about is taking your kids to music lessons. In this episode of the Mama Bear Apologetics podcast, Hillary, Amy and Alexa analyze the animated movie KPop Demon Hunters using their ROAR method: Recognize the message, Offer objective discernment, Argue for a healthier approach, and Reinforce through discussion, discipleship, and prayer. With the film gaining popularity among teens and younger audiences, they break down the worldview behind the catchy music, vibrant visuals, and overarching narrative. They highlight both accurate portrayals of spiritual warfare and problematic messages such as redefining sin, the role and reality of the demonic and fighting shame with pride...which is counter to the Gospel. In this episode, we tackle a hot-button question that’s tripping up Christians left and right: Can Christians judge? And if so, how do we do it well and teach our kids to do the same? We dive into this by unpacking the recent backlash against Chip and Joanna Gaines for featuring a homosexual couple on their new show and Chip's comments that Christians are part of a "judge first, understand never" culture. We explore what Scripture actually says about judgment—particularly looking at Matthew 7:1 and John 7:24—and clarify that while we aren't called to condemn (only God does that), we are absolutely called to correct and warn out of love and humility. Misinterpreting this can silence the gospel and cripple the Church. We lay out five practical steps we can use to judge rightly: being theologically sound, restoration-focused, seasoned with salt, consistent in word and deed, and confident in Christ. We also walk through how to equip our kids to do this in their own lives with discernment and boldness. Because let’s face it—our kids are swimming in a culture that’s trying to disciple them before we do. If we don’t teach them to judge rightly, the world will teach them not to judge at all. So buckle up, Mama Bears—we’re going deep on biblical discernment and how to raise kids who can stand firm in their faith without compromising truth.Main Points CoveredMisuse of Scripture on Judgment (Matthew 7:1)Difference Between Judgment vs. CondemnationCultural Compromise and the Gaines' ControversyFive Steps for Judging Rightly:Teaching Children to Stand Firm in FaithCounterfeit Christianity and Progressive TheologyImportance of Context in Scripture InterpretationEmpowering Empathetic Children Against Cultural ManipulationResources & Organizations MentionedScriptures:Matthew 7:1, 3–6John 7:24Romans 14:4Colossians 2:8; 4:6Ephesians 6:11–182 Timothy 1:7; 3:16–17; 4:1–51 Peter 3:15John 15:18–19Other Resources:Fallacy Detective – a book to help children recognize faulty logicBiblical Hermeneutics: 5 Biblical Interpretation questions every mama needs to know. How to Read Your Bible Well - Episode of Mama Bear ApologeticsParenting Prodigals - Episode of Mama Bear ApologeticsOur SponsorsVoetberg Music Academy: When planning your school year this year, one thing you don’t have to worry about is taking your kids to music lessons. Welcome back, Mama Bears—and this week, we’re tagging in the Papa Bears! In part two of our conversation with Shane Winnings (Army vet, former cop, and now CEO of Promise Keepers), we go full throttle into what it means for men to lead their families biblically—as protector, provider, and priest. Spoiler alert: this isn’t just about paying the bills or owning a shotgun. We’re talking spiritual warfare, intentional discipleship, and standing between your kids and cultural chaos.Shane pulls zero punches as he calls men to reject passivity and step into their God-given role. We cover why Sunday school isn’t enough, why your kid’s screen time might be your biggest enemy, and why discipling the next generation can’t be outsourced. Whether you're a dad, hoping to be one, or you're a spiritual dad, this one is full of incredible practical and empowering advice.Main Points CoveredThe Threefold Call for Men: Shane outlines how men must lead as providers (physically), protectors (spiritually and culturally), and priests (discipling their families in the Word). The Father’s Impact: A father’s spiritual presence directly influences a family’s spiritual direction and resilience.Discipling Beyond the Home: Men are called to disciple not only their own children but young men in their communities. The Cultural Battle for Identity: Shane emphasizes the spiritual war being waged on identity and the need for godly men to fight for truth.Intentional Parenting: Passive parenting leads to cultural discipleship. Dads must lead actively in conversation, protection, and spiritual teaching. The Church and Education: Shane challenges the assumption that Christian environments alone will shape kids and stresses the importance of discipling at home regardless of school choice. How to Engage Practically: From Bible reading to conversations around cultural issues, spiritual fatherhood is both spiritual and strategic.Resources & Organizations MentionedPromise KeepersBook by Shane Winnings: Your Next Leap of FaithFollow Shane WinningsYoutubeInstagramEpisode 114 - Raising Gender Healthy Boys with Ricky CheletteProverbs 22:6 (train up a child)Ephesians 5 (washing your wife in the Word)Romans 12:2, John 14:6 (the truth)Matthew 10:16 (wise as serpents, innocent as doves)Unfamiliar VocabularyIndoctrination: Teaching someone to accept a set of beliefs without question—can be used positively (discipling in truth) or negatively (brainwashing in lies).Priestly Role: Spiritually leading one’s family, similar to how a priest intercedes between people and God. Can modesty actually be an act of worship? And what does that even look like in a world where “less is more” seems to be the fashion motto? In this episode, we dive into the ever-relevant and controversial topic of modesty—but not in a finger-waggy, rulebook kind of way. We’re talking about modesty as a form of worship that honors both God and the bodies He gave us. From 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 to 1 Peter 3:3-4, we unpack what Scripture actually says about how we present ourselves—especially in an era where TikTok trends and Insta-influencers are shaping how our daughters think about beauty and worth. We also tackle those messy misconceptions about clothing and modesty, and how fashion can either reflect our faith or blur the lines. And for the moms raising girls in a culture that’s marketing crop tops and barely-there outfits to 8-year-olds? This conversation is for you. We'll look at how modesty has been both overemphasized in purity culture and undervalued in modern culture, and offer some real-life tips for teaching modesty without shame or legalism. Because guess what? Hey Mama Bears! In this episode, Hilary and Amy tackle a growing trend we’ve seen online: calling out churches in a way that crosses from accountability into straight-up bashing. One post in particular claimed that churches without special needs ministries are leading people away from God—and whew, we’ve got thoughts. We unpack the difference between genuine concerns and unfair criticism, especially when it comes to things like flashy worship, big congregations, and limited resources. Are we pointing out sin, or just style differences? We want to explore this topic with grace, wisdom and discernment. So we invite you to ROAR through the claims made in the article we open with. Hey Mama Bears! Today, we’re tackling some big misconceptions about the Holy Spirit. He’s not just a mystical force or a gut feeling—He’s a person, fully God, with wisdom, and power. And getting this right matters! A.W. Tozer and R.A. Torrey remind us that a faulty view of the Holy Spirit can lead to serious theological errors. So, let’s dive into Scripture—Acts, Romans, and Galatians—to see who He really is and what that means for us.Now, what’s the real evidence of the Spirit at work? It’s not just spiritual gifts or dramatic experiences—it’s the fruit of the Spirit (yep, even patience in the middle of toddler tantrums). He’s our Advocate, Comforter, and the One who intercedes when we don’t have the words. And when we look at Stephen in Acts, we see the kind of bold faith the Spirit empowers—exactly what we want for our kids. So, how do we teach our kids about the Holy Spirit? We’ll break it down into everyday conversations that make sense, tackling tough questions (like the “unforgivable sin”) with biblical clarity. Because theology isn’t just for scholars—it’s for mamas raising the next generation of disciples.Main Points CoveredUnderstanding the Holy Spirit Through ScriptureThe Role of the Holy SpiritPresence of the Holy SpiritHow to Teach Our Kids About the Holy SpiritUnfamiliar VocabularyOmnipotence: An attribute belonging solely to God. Hey Mama bears (and Papa Bears too!), let’s talk about something super important—how we read the Bible. It’s not just about opening the pages and hoping for a divine light bulb moment. Nope! If we’re not careful, we can end up twisting Scripture to say what we want it to say instead of what God actually meant. That’s why we’re diving into biblical interpretation—what it is, why it matters, and how it impacts both our faith and our kids’. We’re navigating the difference between Exegesis (drawing out what Scripture actually says) and Eisegesis (reading our own ideas into Scripture). The truth is, we all have biases, and if we don’t recognize them, we might end up just looking for verses to back up what we already believe instead of letting God shape our beliefs in the first place. And let’s be real—sometimes we get stuck in our own echo chambers. That’s why we need honest, truth-loving friends who challenge us to see Scripture clearly, even when it’s uncomfortable. (Yes, that means being open to correction.) We’ll also unpack how to find theological principles in Scripture and apply them to life today—because let’s face it, human nature hasn’t changed much since biblical times. The same struggles, the same need for God. Our goal? To teach our kids how to read the Bible wisely, grounding their faith in truth, not trends. So grab your coffee, cozy up, and join us as we chat about how biblical interpretation can shape not only our personal faith but also the next generation. Because if we don’t teach them how to handle Scripture rightly, the world will be more than happy to teach them how to do it wrong. Have you ever faced the heart-wrenching challenge of having your child walk away from their faith? On this episode, Mary Comm joins us to share her profound journey of learning to love and relate to her adult prodigal child. With authenticity and vulnerability, Mary opens up about her own past as a prodigal, shedding light on the nuanced differences between genuine estrangement and simple familial disagreements. This episode promises a wealth of guidance for parents navigating these emotionally charged waters, especially within the Christian community. We discuss the spiritual battles faced by families, drawing wisdom from biblical stories like the prodigal son and Job. Feelings of shame and guilt often accompany these experiences, isolating parents and making them question their roles. By fostering openness and honesty within church communities, we hope to dismantle these barriers, providing a safe space for mutual support and healing. Our conversation also touches on the importance of setting healthy boundaries and maintaining love and compassion amidst differences. Through Mary's wisdom, we emphasize the vital role of prayer and resilience in parenting. This episode of Mama Bear Apologetics takes you on a journey through the creative landscape of the new Netflix movie "Mary," directed by D.J. Caruso. Drawing inspiration from the pseudo-evangelical book of James, we dissect how this film reimagines the Christmas story, providing parents with guidance on navigating its differences from biblical accounts. Our goal is to equip you with the insights needed to foster meaningful conversations with your kids about faith, scripture, and the importance of historical and theological contexts. We consider the creative liberties taken by the filmmakers and how these narrative choices can serve as conversation starters with our kids about faith and scripture. By comparing these portrayals to traditional biblical texts, we invite families to appreciate the strength and courage of Mary and Joseph's story, often overlooked in Protestant narratives, and reflect on the film's helpful and harmful perspectives. As the Christmas season unfolds, let's consider how to engage your children in Christ-centered conversations that rise above the holiday hustle and bustle. Main Points CoveredSummary of Netflix's MaryWhat is the message of the filmGood and problematic elements of the filmHow to help kids discern the messageHow to reinforce the true message found in scriptureUnfamiliar VocabularyPseudo-evangelical: The book claims to be written by the brother of Jesus, but in fact is not.Apocryphal: Not divinely inspired and filled with historical and theological inaccuracies.People and Resources MentionedMary on NetflixMatthew 1:21Proverbs 3:5Psalm 118:8-14John 15:5Book of LukeBook of MatthewIsaiah 7:14James 1:2-4Interview by Mama's Geeky with Noa Cohen and D.J. Join us in this thought-provoking episode of the Mama Bear Apologetics podcast as we tackle the challenging task of discussing racism and social justice with children from a biblical perspective. We're excited to welcome our friends and esteemed guests, Krista Bontrager and Monique Duson, authors of the insightful book "Walking in Unity." Together, we explore how to communicate love, justice, and racial unity amidst today's tense political climate. We emphasize the importance of defining terms clearly and understanding their roots in social sciences, ensuring that parents and educators can engage in meaningful conversations with the younger generation. We also examine the complexities of systemic racism and the role of power in societal structures, urging critical analysis before attributing disparities solely to racism. SummaryJoin us as we tackle the crucial topic of biblical inerrancy and inspiration, particularly its impact on the faith of younger generations. We explore how the vast number of biblical manuscripts available today provides us with a unique opportunity to affirm the accuracy of Scripture through textual criticism. Drawing insights from the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy, we aim to equip parents with practical tools to strengthen their children's faith against competing worldviews. We highlight its historical accuracy, fulfilled prophecies, and unbiased portrayal of flawed individuals, underscoring how archaeological discoveries continue to affirm biblical accounts. We explore the unity of Scripture and its transformative power through the Holy Spirit, as well as Jesus' endorsement of its divine inspiration. We emphasize that inerrancy is deeply rooted in God's nature, as He cannot lie, establishing the Bible as an authoritative and reliable guide for life and morality. Professor Nancy Pearcey, renowned author of "The Toxic War on Masculinity," joins us in this enlightening episode of Mama Bear Apologetics to tackle the complex issues surrounding masculinity, Christianity, and culture at large. We discuss the cultural assault on masculinity and how the church can counteract these negative narratives, providing a balanced view that uplifts men rather than tearing them down. Nancy offers valuable insights, supported by sociological data, that demonstrate how evangelical men who are deeply committed to their faith actually excel as husbands and fathers. We journey through the historical transformations in perceptions of masculinity, from family-centric values to the career-driven ambitions influenced by Darwinian evolution and social Darwinism. Highlighting the troubling narratives from influencers like Andrew Tate and Myron Gaines, we emphasize the urgency for the church to present a positive and healthy view of masculinity. These secular scripts, often equating manhood with promiscuity and primal behavior, are infiltrating even Christian educational environments, creating conflicting messages for young men about strength and character. We also explore the significant role of fatherhood in nurturing healthy masculinity. But apart from its singularly masterful writing and vivid imagery, The Lord of the Rings has an element of theological truths interwoven into its very fabric in such a way that even the most hardened skeptic […]The post MBA 20: I was an Atheist Until I Read Lord of the Rings appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
The book The Shack first began making waves in 2007, and here we are 10 years later, still a church divided. Some people love The Shack, others practically want to have The Shack burning parties. Very rarely has someone read it and remained neutral. As with most things in pop culture, the truth is somewhere in between. […]The post MBA 19: The Shack – Hope, Healing… and Heresy? appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
“It is often said with a sneer that the God of Israel was only a God of Battles, ‘a mere barbaric Lord of Hosts’ pitted in rivalry against other gods only as their envious foe.” (From “The Everlasting Man” by G.K. Chesterton) It is indeed often said with a mocking and dismissive sneer that the […]The post MBA 18: Why Does the God of the Old Testament Seem So Different from the God of the New Testament? appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
At Mama Bear Apologetics, our motto is “Mess with our kids, and we will demolish your arguments.” For those who have seen the carnage wrought by the battle of ideas, this tagline makes immediate sense. For others, the question becomes “Is that a Christian attitude? Isn’t demolishing things too aggressive for Christians?” The short answer to […]The post MBA 17: Discussing the Mama Bear Tagline – Isn’t “Demolishing Arguments” a Bit Harsh? appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
When I posted the blog this weekend dissecting the “Guiding Vision and Definition of Principles” from the women’s march, I never expected the kind of attention that it would receive. And while I stand behind my words, that one post was never intended to be my defining moment. I value balance, and there is only […]The post MBA 16: Addressing the Divide From the Women’s March appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
The question of eyewitness reliability is a pertinent conversation that every parent will have (or should have) when their child asks, “How do we know that we can trust the Bible?” If the New Testament documents are not reliable, and if the people writing the New Testament documents were not reliable, what leg does our […]The post MBA 15: Are the New Testament Eyewitnesses Reliable: The Flashbulb Memory Objection appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
If you have never read the “resolutions” of Jonathan Edwards, you are missing out! As Rebekah and I discussed in our last podcast, Jonathan Edwards was an early-mid 18th century revivalist preacher. He is (unfortunately) best known for “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” sermon, which– to understand the context — please listen […]The post MBA 14: Jonathan Edwards’ Resolutions Can Beat-up Your Resolutions appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
In this podcast, Rebekah and I introduce you to one of the central figures of the Great Awakening: Jonathan Edwards. Why is he such an important figure to discuss? He is what many people would classify as a “fire and brimstone” preacher who lived in the mid 18th century (i.e. mid 1700’s). In preparing for this […]The post MBA 13: Resolutions and Legalism Part 1 – An Intro to Jonathan Edwards appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
Mom guilt: the tendency for moms to feel guilty for taking any kind of break for themselves, even though breaks are vital for emotional, intellectual and spiritual health. I can’t speak for other countries, but I know for a fact that we have an epidemic of mom guilt here in America. Call me nostalgic, but […]The post MBA 12: An Honest Talk About Mom Guilt appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
One of the most important questions that we as Christian parents can answer for our children (and for ourselves) is, “Are the New Testament documents reliable?” While this podcast in no way represents a comprehensive answer, it is a good intro to the discussion if you have never heard it before. Topics Discussed: Who is […]The post MBA 11: Are the New Testament Documents Reliable: an Introduction to Bart Ehrman appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
This is possibly one of the most awkward podcasts we have had to do. This election season was brutal. Never have I seen the results of an election affect kids in such a profound way, and never have I seen so many young adults behaving like children. When I was a kid, I knew the elections were […]The post MBA 10: 3 Essential Truths to Include When Discussing the Election With Kids (or Even When You’re Processing on Your Own) appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
This is part 2 of our interview with Jody Vise. In Part 1, we heard Jody’s story of raising her children in the church, dealing with the devastating news when her son walked away from the faith, and looking at what she felt were some of the contributing factors. In Part 2, we discuss the differences […]The post MBA 9: What to Do When Your Child Walks Away From God – Jody’s Story Part 2 appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
Jody thought she had all her bases covered. She and her husband were believers. They took their children to church, to Awana, and later to youth group. It wasn’t until her son came home one year after college and told her that he no longer believed in God that she knew anything was wrong. I […]The post MBA 8: The Danger of Raising Kids in a Christian Bubble – Jody’s Story Part 1 appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.

Many women shy away from apologetics because they assume that apologetics means that you will always be debating with atheists. That is simply not true. Our children need reasons for their faith just as much (if not more so) than the local atheist. And guess what? YOU are the primary missionary to your children! In […]The post MBA 6: The 5 Types of People You Will Meet in Apologetics appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
In this episode, we discuss the differences between core truths and peripheral truths of the Christian faith, and the importance of teaching these differences to your children. A core truth could be defined as beliefs that separate a Christian from a non-Christian. These would be the tenets of the faith that are necessary in order […]The post MBA 5: Core Truths vs Peripheral Truths of Christianity… and the Importance of Knowing the Difference appeared first on Mama Bear Apologetics.
