The highly literate British psych-folk pop rock raver Robyn Hitchcock returns for his third RSD podcast appearance, this time to unveil his cracking new album, The Confuser (Tiny Ghost Records). Naturally, if you know Hitchcock, there are plenty of digressions into topics such as; people named "Roger," temporal literacy, trams and trolley buses, the polka dots of Angine de Poitrine, the culinary prowess of Gillian Welch, and why, as the author of two memoirs (including his newly published Stranded In The Future) he's often an "unreliable narrator" in his own life story.   The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music. Today's guest, Lenny Kaye couldn't be more suited to The RSD Podcast. He's a celebrated author, guitarist, music journalist, and record producer, who has finally, after all this time, released his very first solo album, Goin' Local, out now from Yep Roc. In addition to his many decades as Patti Smith's guitarist and aide-de-camp, Lenny was also the architect of the highly influential 1972 garage rock/psychedelic compilation, Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, which launched many sequels, and more than a few bands, in its wake. We talk about all of the above, and more, in this very special conversation.    The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music. The Me That Remains isn't just the first original Amy Grant album in 13 years, produced by Mac MacAnally, it's a deeply intimate, stripped-down, folk-pop reflection on survival, aging, and reconstruction, heavily shaped by a series of profound, recent life-altering health events including a severe 2022 bicycle accident that left this multiple Grammy winner and Kennedy Center honoree with a traumatic brain injury and a long road to recovery. Luckily, Amy fought her way back to tell us all about it in this wide-ranging and revealing conversation.    For the most up-to-date news about all things RSD, visit RecordStoreDay.com   The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music. Greatest Hits Records & Books in Media, PA, is where our guests, Stu Eli, Jesse Gennett, and Dom Glisson cooked up the idea to record and release an "audio time capsule" of the sounds of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, a/k/a "Delco." The result is the 92-track album, The Sounds Of Delco, Vol. 1, a light-hearted but affectionate nod to their region and to the used sound effects records that wash up in the store from time to time.  Paul also pays tribute to Jack Douglas (1945-2026) the legendary music producer and engineer of classic albums by John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Cheap Trick, Patti Smith Group, Aerosmith, and The New York Dolls, who passed on at the age of 80 on May 11.  For the most up-to-date news about all things RSD, visit RecordStoreDay.com Didn't find everything on your RSD lists? Castle Rat is a self-described "medieval fantasy metal band" led by our guest, Riley Pinkerton. In her stage persona as "The Rat Queen," Pinkerton is a sword-wielding heroine on a mission to expand and defend 'The Realm' from those who seek to destroy it. Off stage, she's a friendly, glue-gun wielding creative arts kid, firmly grounded in the real world. She's here to talk about the band's most recent concept album, The Bestiary, why she feels that the body positive fantasy art of Frank Frazetta was actually empowering to women, and how she and her band all get a good laugh out of watchingl the film, This Is Spinal Tap.  For the most up-to-date news about all things RSD, visit RecordStoreDay.com Didn't find everything on your RSD lists? Squeeze co-founder Glenn Tilbrook is here to discuss the band's fantastic new album Trixies, featuring the current lineup of the beloved London, England based band bringing to life a concept album full of songs that Tilbrook and co-founder Chris Difford first wrote together over 50 years ago, well before they'd even recorded their debut album with producer John Cale. The result is arguably the band's strongest album in decades. We also look back on Squeeze's earlier work with Elvis Costello, reveal how The Roots played an indirect role in the band's current lineup, and Glenn pays his respects to dear departed original drummer, Gilson Lavis.    For the most up-to-date news about all things RSD, not to mention The List, visit RecordStoreDay.co Didn't find everything on your RSD lists? Record Store Day 2026 Preview pt. 3.   Legendary music producer Jerry Goldstein (Eric Burdon & War, Sly & The Family Stone and more) is here to discuss the fascinating and often tragic story of Ike White, who recorded a forgotten 1974 funky soul cult classic, Changin' Times, with a mobile truck at Tehachapi State Prison while serving a life sentence for murder. That album so moved Stevie Wonder that he actively campaigned for White's early release from prison. This year, Rhino has remastered and pressed 3000 copies of Changin' Times for an RSD Exclusive release. We discuss the events surrounding the original album with its producer, Goldstein, whose own music business history includes co-writing the 1960s "girl group" hit "My Boyfriend's Back" for The Angels, and being one third of the "fake Australian surf group" The Strangeloves ("I Want Candy") and going on to work with Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, and the act he put together, Eric Burdon & WAR, whom he also produced.    The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music. In 2026, for every copy sold, LMFP will contribute $1.00 to the Arbor Day Foundation, with a minimum annual donation of $12,000 leading to the planting of one tree in a forest of need.   The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music. Steve Berlin has been a member of L.A. band Los Lobos since 1984, but in the interim he has split his career between playing saxophone for that band (and The Blasters) and becoming an in-demand record producer for a host of bands including Los Lobos, Faith No More, Crash Test Dummies, and Canada's biggest band, The Tragically Hip. But in 1981, he began his production career working on an album for L.A. local legends, Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs. The album, Pigus Drunkus Maximus, was initially released on the vanity label of another L.A. legend, Steve Wynn, before practically vanishing into the mists of L.A. musical history. This year, the album received a deluxe remastered reissue, with liner notes by Chris Morris, and archival photography by Gary Leonard. Steve tells us the legend of Top Jimmy, and shares some exciting Los Lobos news. And Paul (always the Canadian) asks him about producing The Tragically Hip.    The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music. In our first episode of 2026, the legendary UK record producer, remixer, and dub pioneer Adrian Sherwood reflects on his fourth solo studio effort, The Collapse of Everything, released last summer on his On-U Sound label. He explains how the album's melodic, contemplative sonic headspace balances modern plugin technology with the raw, "breathing" energy of live performances. He also talks about many of his collaborators like Doug Wimbish and Brian Eno, but also dear departed cohorts such as Keith LeBlanc, Mark Stewart, and Lee "Scratch" Perry. Over his five-decade career, Sherwood has become synonymous with a distinctive "sound-scientist" approach to the mixing desk, most notably associated with the groundbreaking projects African Head Charge, the industrial-funk powerhouse Tackhead,  rhythmic explorers Dub Syndicate, and the seminal roots-dub band Creation Rebel.   The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. Happy New Year from the Record Store Day Podcast! As we hustle 2025 out the door, we give you one final holiday treat. Actor John C. Reilly has made a name for himself in the films of Paul Thomas Anderson, in the movie musical Chicago, and in comedy films like Step Brothers, Talladega Nights, and the cult comedy, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, a parody of rock music biopics.    But in 2025, Reilly released two physical recordings as his enigmatic stage persona, Mister Romantic; the full album, What's Not To Love? And the recent RSD Black Friday 7 inch single "Dream A Little Dream Of Me," b/w "Paper Moon"   In this delightful conversation, Reilly explains the origins of his high concept persona, and reveals that musical theatre and the spreading of joy and love are his abiding passions.    The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. We're simply having a wonderful holiday special, and you're invited.   While music fans may be divided about the merits of Paul McCartney's enduring holiday offering "Wonderful Christmastime," it's hard to deny that the Holidays are always packed with new releases from both of his legendary bands. 2025 brought us both the latest installment in The Beatles Anthology albums (and the updated streaming series), plus two projects that shine a spotlight on Macca's other band, Wings.   One was a new triple LP compilation, WINGS: The Definitive Self-Titled Collection, and the other is a book, the oral history Wings: The Story Of A Band On The Run, written by McCartney himself, and edited by our guest today, historian Ted Widmer, who talks about the process of working with McCartney and what he learned about the story of the ex-Beatle's overachieving second act.   And McCartney's current long-serving guitarist/bassist Brian Ray just got back from the band's worldwide Got Back Tour, and is here to share some of his insights about bringing the McCartney catalogue to life, Every Night. He also talks about some of his solo projects, including the recent RSD Black Friday double LP, Rock The Plaza, where Ray worked alongside legends like Paul Rodgers, Josh Homme, Alice Cooper, and Orianthi.    The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered, and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. This week's episode is the second of two special spotlights on a few of the featured titles from the Black Friday List, which is up now at RecordStoreDay.com. This week, we welcome back Talking Heads drummer and co-founder Chris Frantz to unpack Tentative Decisions: Demos & Live a vinyl collection from Rhino Records exclusively for RSD Black Friday featuring a newly discovered demo by pre-Talking Heads group, The Artistics, plus eleven demo and live tracks recorded by the original trio lineup of the band (with Tina Weymouth, Frantz and Byrne) recorded in 1975 and 1976. Early in August, Record Store Day held their annual "Summer Camp" meeting in New Orleans, once again returning to the lovely Hotel Monteleone, in the heart of the French Quarter, for a few days of meeting, schmoozing, and, frankly, Big Easy cuisine. During the week, host Paul Myers recorded a couple of live interviews with musicians talking about their approach to the music business in 2025.  Today, we are sharing one of them. Guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer David Rawlings, whose most recent album with Gillian Welch, Woodland, was one of the best records of 2024, sat down with Paul in the Hotel Monteleone ballroom to discuss his duo's truly independent, and self-reliant, approach to the business of music making and distribution. Welch and Rawlings are co-owners of Nashville's Woodland Studio, their own Acony Records label, and now, they are partners in their own prestige pressing facility, Paramount Pressing & Plating, in Denver, Colorado. It's a fun talk! This summer, the Ohio-based musical group Caamp released theirfifth and most adventurous album to date, Copper Changes Color which they call "a celebration of the dreams and bonds that endure." Co-produced by Beatriz Artola (Fleet Foxes, Sharon Van Etten) and Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, R.E.M.), their songs are raw and vulnerable, alternating between breezy anthems and pensive meditations, and the performances are honest and intuitive to match. Founding member Evan Westfall tells us about building a record upon what they band refer to as "love and trust in the face of doubt and uncertainty, a joyful, cathartic work about not just accepting change, but learning to embrace it." Paul also offers a few words to mark the passing of esteemed, yet possibly underrated singer and guitarist Terry Reid (1949-2025) who succumbed to cancer on August 4th. On May 29, 1997, Jeff Buckley drowned in Wolf River, Memphis, Tennessee, just as he was preparing to record the follow-up to his critically acclaimed debut album, Grace. He was only 30 years old. In the time since his tragic death, his legacy has only grown, and the music remains a unique testament to his singular voice and songwriting talent. On July 22, 2025, we lost Birmingham-born rock vocalist and cultural icon Ozzy Osbourne, rock's "prince of darkness," at the age of 76. His death, from complications due to Parkinson's Disease, ends a career spanning five decades, in which he pioneered an entire subgenre of heavy metal music, as frontman for Black Sabbath, before going on to an even bigger career as a solo artist, where he is credited for introducing the guitarist Randy Rhoads to the wider rock world, and for creating the wildly popular Ozzfest tours. Then, when he'd done it all, he and members of his family, Jack, Kelly, and his manager-wife Sharon, became pioneers of "reality TV" with the hit series, The Osbournes. On this very special episode, we hear two personal stories of how Ozzy's music and persona touched the lives of music industry professionals who were also, first and foremost, fans. Returning to our program, Jenn D'Eugenio (Women In Vinyl), made the journey to Birmingham for Ozzy's bittersweet Back To The Beginning farewell show, . She shares her first-hand descriptions of the event, plus two other fascinating Black Sabbath stories. Also returning is acclaimed music journalist Sylvie Simmons (Sounds, Kerrang!, and more), who took some time away from writing an Ozzy piece for Mojo magazine to share some personal anecdotes with Ozzy dating all the way back to his last days in Sabbath and how Sharon navigated his career back to the top. Our guest Chris Stamey's new album is called Anything Is Possible, and during long and fruitful musical career, he's done just about everything. As a founding member of The dB's he helped define an era of 1970s indie rock and power pop, and his solo work (and duo work with his fellow dB Peter Holsapple) only widened his songwriting vocabulary. Among the distinguished guests joining Stamey on Anything Is Possible are another NC music legend Mitch Easter, plus some friends of the podcast, including The Lemon Twigs, Pat Sansone (Wilco), Marshall Crenshaw, and many more. Lately, Chris has been 1/5th of the Big Star Quintet, performing the music of Big Star (with original drummer Jody Stephens) and this year, he'll release an album with The Salt Collective, in partnership with French musician Stéphane Schück.  The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. Daryl Hall has been one of the most identifiable voices and songwriters on records and radios for over half a century and he's still doing it. As the lead singer and principal songwriter in Hall & Oates he had a string of hits (quite a few of them co-written with Sara and Janna Allen) that included "She's Gone," "Sara Smile," "Rich Girl," "One on One," "I Can't Go For That," "Make My Dreams (Come True)," "Private Eyes," "Out of Touch," and more. And as a solo artist he's made landmark records like Sacred Songs (with King Crimson's Robert Fripp) and last year's D album, a collaboration with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics). In this comprehensive chat, we talk about Hall's entire career, including his successful web series, Live From Daryl's House, and his work with record making legends like Arif Mardin, Thom Bell, Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff, The Temptations, Todd Rundgren, Elvis Costello, and Bob Clearmountain.  The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. Grace Potter makes her Record Store Day Podcast debut to talk about her new album that is actually seventeen years old. In 2008, the Vermont-born, singer songwriter, and front person for Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, collaborated with the legendary T-Bone Burnett on a solo departure called Medicine, featuring Burnett and a crew of side players including Jim Keltner, Marc Ribot, Dennis Crouch, and Keefus Ciancia. It was a solid set and a bold personal statement but, at the time, Hollywood Records shelved the album indefinitely to concentrate on furthering her work with the Nocturnals. But now, it's finally seeing the light of day, and Grace graced us with the inside story on Medicine's long, long journey to the racks of your local independent record store. For decades, the innovative guitarist Marc Ribot has been a first-call session musician, lending his singular instrumental voice to recordings by Tom Waits, Marianne Faithfull, Elvis Costello, T-Bone Burnett and many more. In our conversation, he talks about working with the late, great Hal Willner (who worked on the early stages of ...Blue City), the poetry of Allen Ginsberg, and why Tom Waits is such a uniquely effective bandleader.  The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. Singer, songwriter, musician, arranger, record producer, and A&R man Swamp Dogg has done it all in his 65 plus years in the music business. Starting out in West Virginia in the 1950s, as "Little" Jerry Williams, he blazed a trail across the country with stops in Nashville, and finally his funky home in Los Angeles, which is the setting for the great new documentary, Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted. Swamp spoke to us about the film, and about his long, illustrious and, at times notorious, career including his countrified album from last year, Blackgrass: From West Virginia to 125th Street, on the Oh Boy! label. There was no way we were gonna get to talk about everything, so go see the film when and wherever you can.  The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. With Record Store Day 2025 in the books, we continue to feature some of the talented recording artists who make the records; and this week we have one of the all-time greats. Bob Mould has enjoyed a long and illustrious career in which he has frequently been the guitarist and singer fronting superb rock trios, starting in Minnesota with the seminal '80s indie band Hüsker Dü, and Sugar in the '90s. Bob has continued to record as a solo singer/songwriter who consistently delivers edgy and emotional guitar rock, which brings us to the topic of today's episode, Mould's 15th solo album, the recently released Here We Go Crazy (Granary Music / BMG) which finds Bob's signature blistering guitar and urgent vocals once again backed by his powerful and long-serving rhythm section of Jason Narducy on bass, and friend of the show, Jon Wurster on the drums. As Christmas nears, we caught up with the legendary rock vocalist Steve Perry, a certified Rock & Roll Hall of Famer who first made his name as the former lead singer for Journey before going on to a successful solo career with era-defining '80s hits like "Oh Sherrie" and "Foolish Heart." The occasion for this chat is the release of Perry's Holiday themed album of sentimental standards, The Season 3 (his first for Dark Horse Records). Since Steve doesn't do many interviews, Paul seized the opportunity to ask Perry about singing for the late great Quincy Jones on "We Are The World," or the story behind Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" ending up in the finale of HBO's The Sopranos. Paul even made sure to ask Steve to weigh in on the whole Yacht Rock discourse.  The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. Happy November, anything important going on this week? Meanwhile, here at the Record Store Day Podcast, we're talking about, what else?, music. Twin Cities band Hippo Campus have just released their fourth album, Flood (in stores now on the Psychic Hotline label) and bassist Zach Sutton and guitarist Nathan Stocker are here to unpack the whole thing. Plus, as we were mixing this week's show we learned of the passing of a giant of music and recording, Quincy Jones, at the age of 91, so Paul asked his brother Mike Myers to share his immediate reaction to the news, and remember Q's integral contributions to his Austin Powers series, onscreen and off.  The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.  Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. Joe Boyd has had many job descriptions over the course of his nearly sixty-year career in music, and there was simply no way to cover everything in this conversation. That said, Paul and Joe focus on Boyd's important new book, And The Roots of Rhythm Remain: A Journey Through Global Music, and themes of cultural cross-pollination in music, the birth of hip hop and ska, the reason Hitler spared the life of virtuoso Roma guitarist Django Reinhardt, what happened with Nick Drake, and Boyd's phenomenal earlier book, the memoir, White Bicycles: Making Music in the 1960s.  As a music producer, Boyd has delivered records by Nick Drake, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., Taj Mahal, Fairport Convention, Richard and Linda Thompson, Sandy Denny. He tour-managed European dates for Muddy Waters, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and was a production manager at the 1965 Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals, before flying off to open Elektra Records' UK office in London where he and John Hopkins opened the UFO club, giving a psychedelic home to Pink Floyd and others.  In 1971 he moved to Los Angeles to work for Warner Brothers Films (Deliverance, A Clockwork Orange, and the documentary Jimi Hendrix). In 1979, he worked for Lorne Michaels' film company, Broadway Pictures, and the following year, launched his own label, Hannibal Records, releasing works by John Cale, Richard Thompson and more, while bringing global artists such as ¡Cubanismo!, Toumani Diabaté, Ali Farka Touré, Trio Bulgarka, and Songhai, to western audiences. UK breakout band The Heavy Heavy co-founders Georgie Fuller and William Turner are here to unpack their debut full-length album One Of A Kind (ATO Records), the followup to last year's 7-song EP, Life and Life Only. Recorded mostly at Turner's studio in Brighton, England, One Of A Kind finds the band leaning away from Laurel Canyon-esque folk-rock to fully embrace their British roots, finding a particularly crucial inspiration in the gritty and groove-heavy hedonism of the mid-1970s Rolling Stones. They're nice people making compelling retro-tinged modern rock. Brigitte Calls Me Baby is a Chicago-based band with a sound that, while rooted in 2024 could have easily made it onto the soundtrack of an 80s John Hughes' teen comedy. But as frontpserson and songwriter Wes Leavins explains to Paul, there's more to the story, including his involvement in Baz Luhrmann's biopic, Elvis. There's kind of a theme to this week's show, which is admittedly a bit of a mashup of two previous episodes plus a new chat with Travis & Lisa from The Guestroom in Louisville, KY. It all started last summer, when Lisa and Travis flew to London to see Blur in concert at the legendary Wembley Stadium. Cut to this year, and the July 26 release of the Blur Live At Wembley set. Paul caught up with Travis & Lisa to debrief them on what it was like to actually be there. Woo Hoo! Well, Blur's Graham Coxon has recently been playing with Dhani Harrison, so we took this opportunity to re-post Paul's chat with Dhani earlier this year. Topics included working with his dad, George Harrison, who as you probably know was in The Beatles.  Well, THAT made us want to close this week's episode with a reprise of Paul's conversation with the legendary drummer from The Beatles, Ringo Starr. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we got an actual Beatle!  So many connections here, and that's not even including the fact that both Blur and The Beatles were signed to the Parlophone label in the UK! Say "Beetlebum" three times and you're there. Last year, The Lemon Twigs' Brian & Michael D'Addario made their RSD Podcast debut to talk about one of the best albums of 2023, Everything Harmony. Exactly one year later, they're back with a brand new album, A Dream Is All We Know, recorded mostly by themselves at their Brooklyn studio, except for one track on which they collaborated with Sean Ono Lennon at his studio in upstate New York. English/Irish composer and arranger Sean O'Hagan (Microdisney, Stereolab) is perhaps best known as the visionary behind The High Llamas, whose second album Gideon Gaye (1994) blended a healthy respect for the harmonic tableaus of both Brian Wilson and Steely Dan with a delicate UK pop sound reminiscent of his contemporaries such as Prefab Sprout. On the brand new High Llamas album, Hey Panda, (featuring guests including Fryars, and Bonny "Prince" Billy) O'Hagan has been absorbing many of the production tricks of contemporary hip-hip records from the likes of Tyler The Creator or Solange, while retaining most of the melodic tendencies that first endeared High Llamas' fans to his music. As you'll hear, O'Hagan cares deeply about keeping his ear to the ground for the new while honoring the past. It's a great conversation.  And Record Store Day co-founder Carrie Colliton returns after a highly successful Record Store Day 2024.  The Record Store Day Podcast is written, produced, engineered and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music.
