Episode 59: Alert to Your Surroundings
Podcast: Hope for Right Now: A Walking with Purpose Podcast
Published On: Mon Apr 14 2025
Description: Special guests: We are kicking off Holy Week with Fr. John Riccardo and Mary Guilfoyle from ACTS XXIX. This Lent, Lisa and Laura explore Passionate Discipleship, a nine-week Lenten Bible study series. In these powerful episodes, they'll unpack Paul's wisdom to his closest friend, Timothy, and reflect on how we can apply it to our lives today. As we grow in personal holiness, we will boldly step into our call as true disciples by reaching out to the next generation and passing on all that we’ve learned. In today’s episode, they kick off Holy Week by welcoming two special guests to discuss Lesson 6, Alert to Your Surroundings: Fr. John Riccardo and Mary Guilfoyle from ACTS XXIX. They talk all things prayer, identity, and Scripture. This episode is an absolute must-listen! Open your Heart to our key Scripture. 2 Timothy 3:1–7: But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of stress. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, inhuman, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding the form of religion but denying the power of it. Avoid such people. For among them are those who make their way into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and swayed by various impulses, who will listen to anybody and can never arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Psalm 139:1–3: O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Mark 10:17–31: The Rich Man Luke 15:11–32: The Parable of the Prodigal and His Brother Isaiah 43:1,4: But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine … Because you are precious in my eyes and honored, and I love you. Ecclesiastes 1:9: What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done; and there is nothing new under the sun. Invite Him in with this episode’s questions for reflection. Go to prayer and ask the Lord these two questions: By what name do You call me? What is the one thing that keeps me from wholeheartedly following You? Show mentions.
