Have everything in its place and make sure your kid is on board and learn to take ownership of how things are done. Don’t assume your kid knows what needs to be done, until they have established a routine. Ask questions that will clue them in to thinking about whether or not something is done or needs to be done. Communication with your child’s teacher is a valuable tool for both the parent and the student. Establish the expectation that you will check to see your child’s work is done, until they prove that they don’t need supervision. Check in with your kid! How are they socially and emotionally? Keep offering support and security to your child. Take time to stop and listen when your child communicates with you. Do you have a “difficult” child? Lisa says they are often her favorite students. Encourage that connection between child and teacher to help your child feel better understood. Anxiety in our kids is different these days. Technology, phones, social media, etc. all contribute to overload in our kids. Make sure they have downtime with the family. Social skills have been affected after the pandemic. How do we encourage our kids to become more social? Encourage in-person interaction. Teach your child how to solve conflicts. Try role playing. Keep practicing social skills with your kids, no matter how old they are. Balance unplugged activities with you learning more about what they do online.
