A massive search followed, but the only trace ever found were his two rubber boots—discovered caught in debris in a shallow brook not far from the property. With little progress in finding Dylan, the case has taken on a life of its own online. Fueled by speculation and emotion, it has become a magnet for conspiracy theories, unrelenting armchair detectives, disturbing ransom hoaxes, and a cyberbullying case that ended up before the courts.
