Hello, friend. Thanks for joining me.  Let me ask you a question – is God good when life isn’t? I understand if that’s hard to answer. But I think today’s episode could help; I pray it does.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re doing well. Today’s episode reminds us that God is the business of grand reversals. For Joseph, that meant prison one day, Pharaoh’s palace the next. I can’t imagine Joseph saw that big moment coming, but he was ready for it because he saw a big God. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, my friend. I sure hope you’re having a good day. If you’re the type of person who listens to podcasts while you sit in traffic or stand in lines, today’s topic has a touch of irony—waiting. No one’s favorite activity. Especially when we’re waiting for deliverance from a painful circumstance. But may I remind you of the promise found in Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hi, friend. I hope you’re well today.Today we’re talking about tests. What do you do when you face a test? How do you respond? If you’re struggling to see the value in your struggle, try this: Don’t look at your test as an interruption to life, but as training for life. No one ever said the road would be easy or painless, but God will use this mess for good. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, friend. I hope you’re having a good day. Some of the most difficult challenges in life come our way thanks to bad luck, bad timing, or bad actors. And when we’re dealt a bad hand, it’s easy to justify our choices. To be tempted by shortcuts or quick fixes. When you find yourself in such a situation, be encouraged by the example of Joseph in Genesis 39 – do what pleases God. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hi, friend. Welcome back to the Encouraging Word Podcast. Today’s episode is for anyone who knows what it’s like to lose everything, who knows what it’s like to feel far from God. Listen to this promise found in Psalm 139: “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” God is not far from you, my friend. He is with you. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, friend. Thanks for joining me. Today’s episode finds us in the pit with Joseph. Sold into slavery by his own brothers and sent to Egypt with nothing. Nothing except a dream given to him by God. No matter how dire his circumstances, nothing could take away the call of God on his life. And nothing can take away the call of God on yours, my friend. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re doing well today. For the next few episodes, we’ll be looking at the life of Joseph in the book of Genesis. He didn’t have it easy—abandoned, abused, wrongfully imprisoned. Perhaps you can relate to some of what Joseph faced. If so, I’m going to give you a sneak peek at the big promise of his story: with God’s help, you will get through this. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello Friend! I'm coming to you with a special bonus episode on this Good Friday. I pray you have a blessed Easter weekend. He is risen, indeed. Purchase Never Give Up here.
We’ve arrived at Holy Week. This is the most significant week in the Christian calendar. In the coming days, someone will attend a church service for the first time. Someone will hear the gospel for the first time and choose to follow Jesus. And the celebration in heaven will be jubilant. We’ve spent the last few episodes discussing the promises of John 3:16. As we wrap up this series ahead of Easter Sunday, I want to talk to you about eternity—the reality of hell and the great hope of heaven. “Whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, friend. I hope you’re well today. No one is immune to the anxiety in our world. Global concerns—wars, catastrophic weather events, a worldwide pandemic still fresh in our memories. Personal concerns—mental health issues, relationship challenges, financial concerns. The bottom line is this: it’s not a good time to be at odds with God. A heart right with God can survive in a world gone wrong. But when the heart is alienated from God, there is no way for life to be right. My prayer for you today is that you have a very clear answer to that question: “Am I right with God?” Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hi, my friend. I hope you’re doing well today. For the next few weeks on the podcast, leading up to Easter, I’ll be sharing from one of my favorite verses. I’ve been asked what I would choose if I could only preach one topic or one passage for the rest of my life. I think this is it—John 3:16. The Hope Diamond of the Bible. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Purchase Never Give Up here.
This week on the podcast we're looking at what is, for many people, the challenge of life. Forgiving people who have hurt us. Forgiveness is not easy but, I believe with the Lord's help, the grace we have received from God can overflow into the lives of others.Purchase Never Give Up here.
Our topic for this episode is God's greatest gift to us, grace. I've preached a lot of sermons on grace, I've written a few books on grace, but I never get tired of talking about this gift of being made right with God through his grace. As perfectly summarized in 1 Corinthians 5:18-21, "All this is from God. Through Christ, God made peace between us and himself, and God gave us the work of telling everyone about the peace we can have with him. God was in Christ, making peace between the world and himself. In Christ, God did not hold the world guilty of its sins. And he gave us this message of peace. So we have been sent to speak for Christ. It is as if God is calling to you through us. We speak for Christ when we beg you to be at peace with God. Christ had no sin, but God made him become sin so that in Christ we could become right with God." Purchase Never Give Up here.
This week on the podcast we’re turning our attention to a favorite passage of mine found in Matthew chapter 6: “Give us this day our daily bread.” No prayer better summarizes our relationship with God than this expression of trust. God’s treatment of fear has always been trust. These are fear-filled days, aren’t they? We see it in newscasts and on our neighbors’ faces. We’re anxious. So, I can’t think of a more appropriate phrase to focus on than this simple, profound prayer of trust. Purchase Never Give Up here.
What happens when we believed we are loved by God? What do we do? How do we act? Might I suggest that the primary purpose of the Christian is this: to worship. When we worship God for who he is and all he has done for us, it reinforces what we know to be true of God’s character, enables us to receive his love, and changes how we see the world as people made in his image.Purchase Never Give Up here.
Our theme for today’s episode is faithfulness, and to help us understand the concept of faithfulness we’re looking at the life of Joseph. Joseph’s story reminds us that when we trust God and respond with faith, He can bring triumph from tragedy.Purchase Never Give Up here.
This week is Valentine’s Day, so it feels appropriate to bring you an episode about love. February 14th may prompt us to show extra affection to those dearest to us, but what do we do when people are hard to love? May these words from the apostle John serve as an encouraging reminder: “Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”Purchase Never Give Up here.
Thank you for joining me this week on The Encouraging Word podcast. The last few episodes we’ve been talking about the fruits of the spirit, and our topic today is kindness. In this episode I share a story from the Bible about two figures you likely know and one you may not. I can think of no better story to illustrate the lasting impact of the kindness of a friend.Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello friend. Thanks for joining me on the Encouraging Word Podcast. This week we're discussing the importance of patience. The reality is we are all "works in progress" until the return of Christ.Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, my friend. What do you do when an unexpected storm blows into your life and disrupts everything? Where do you find strength to battle anxiety and fear? The Bible offers an answer in Philippians chapter 4. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello there my friend. Thank you so very much for joining me today. We're beginning the year with some episodes looking at the big ideas of the Bible. We started last week by talking about the purpose of the Bible, why it matters and why it's important to study it. This week we're moving on to some concepts found in scripture that you might know as the fruit of the Spirit. Today's episode is about joy. Not the kind of joy that depends on circumstances, but the kind of joy that depends on Christ. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Happy New Year! Welcome back to the Encouraging Word podcast. It's resolution season. All over the world people are resolving to exercise more, spend less, try a new hobby. A common resolution for people of faith is to read the Bible more and if that resonates, today's episode is for you! The Bible is the most important book for the Christian. It answers the two most fundamental questions of the human heart. How did I get here? How do I get where I'm supposed to be? If you or someone else you know is asking these questions I can think of no better habit then to build this year as a year in which you study the Bible. Purchase Never Give Up here.
It’s that time of year when we're choosing gifts to give for Christmas. As the hero of the holidays, Jesus deserves our finest gift. But what could that be? We can look to the angels to know what Jesus really wants from us this Christmas. As a reminder, The Encouraging Word Podcast will be off next week, but we’ll back with new episodes in January. Merry Christmas, friend! Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello friend. Thanks for joining me today.  Can you believe we’re halfway through December? Christmas will be here in just a few days. As you’re no doubt busy preparing for the holidays, I pray today’s episode gives you a few moments to reflect on the Savior who comes at just the right moment.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hi friend. I hope you’re doing well today.  The past few episodes we’ve been talking about what it looks like to live in a way that reflects God’s glory to the world around us. We’ve considered different aspects of life where we can take the focus off ourselves and put it on God. For some, the most difficult time to do that is when we’re succeeding. It’s wonderful to be good at something but remember this: God made you good so you can make him known. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello my friend. I hope you’re having a good day.   As we continue this series about living a life that reflects the glory of God, might I suggest that includes your struggles? We all have things in our lives we would change, things we wish we didn’t have to deal with. Illness, financial challenges, difficult relationships. But take comfort in this truth, friend: there is nothing you will face that God has not ordained, and he will use it for his purposes. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello friend. I hope you’re doing well today.  This week on the podcast we’re looking at an issue that plagued the Philippian church—legalism. They trusted the work of Jesus but were trying to add a little something on their own. If you ever find yourself looking for “Jesus plus” something else, the apostle Paul says to you what he said to the Philippians: “Now I am right with God, not because I followed the law, but because I believed in Christ. God uses my faith to make me right with him.”  Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello friend. Thanks for joining me on the Encouraging Word Podcast.  We’re tackling a new topic today. For the next few weeks we’ll be talking about living a God-centered life. Now that might sound simple, but living a God-centered life means not living a me-centered life. Not quite so easy, but with God as our helper, it’s possible.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re having a good day. 1 Corinthians 13:7 says, "Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things." God calls us to walk out sacrificial love. I pray this message encourages you. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, my friend. Thanks for joining me this week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. We really live in contentious times. This episode is releasing the day before a Presidential Election here in the United States. Regardless of the outcome, some people are going to be disappointed. Maybe angry. Including some Christians. But, no matter which candidate wins the Oval Office, we know who occupies the throne. As followers of Christ, we're called to and empowered to live in unity with other believers. So, may this message be a blessing. Let's pray for this election. Let's pray for our leaders at every level. Let's love our neighbors. And, let's trust that what God says will happen, will happen. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re having a good day. This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast we conclude our study of heaven’s timeline and what happens next. As I’ve studied and taught on this topic, I’ve been asked many times, “So, Max, are we living in the end times?” I think we are. And in today’s episode we consider the signs that indicate we are in the last days and how that knowledge compels us to live.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, friend. Welcome to the Encouraging Word Podcast. For the past several weeks we’ve been studying heaven’s timeline and God’s plan for the ages.Today’s episode brings us to a challenging topic. What happens to those who reject Jesus? There will be a judgment day. It will be a sobering event. But you don’t have to fear it. You don’t have to wonder the outcome. Jesus has done everything possible to point you toward heaven. The good news about the bad news of the final judgment is that it need not be your news. Your only task is to say “yes” to him. Hello, my friend. Thanks for joining me this week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. This world is not paradise. It doesn’t look like the perfect Garden of Eden in Genesis chapter one. Devastating weather events, ongoing war, famine and illness – all symptoms of our fallen world where Satan prowls. But a day is coming, friend. A day when Christ is crowned, and we will reign with him, and God will have his Garden. Purchase Never Give Up here.
This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, as we continue our study of heaven’s timeline, we’re looking at the second coming of Christ. It won’t be like the first. Baby Jesus, sleeping in the manger – this is a familiar image. But it’s not the image of Christ’s return. When he comes again, it will be to rule and reign and answer the prayer of Matthew chapter 6: “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello, my friend. Welcome back to the Encouraging Word Podcast. We’re working our way down heaven’s timeline and God’s plan for the ages. Today we come to the period of tribulation. Scripture tells us this will be a dark, chaotic time, in part because the church and those who follow Jesus will be gone. But Scripture also tells us that this darkness won’t last forever, and even in the days of tribulation, there is reason to hope. Purchase Never Give Up here.
In last week’s episode of The Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we talked about the rapture, and today we’re talking about what happens to the church after the rapture. I know these can be unsettling topics, but take heart, my friend – great celebrations in heaven await us. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast we're continuing our study on the end times. What purpose does the rapture serve? How can I believe that it will take place? Those are the questions we're beginning to answer today... Purchase Never Give Up here.
What do you know about the millennium? The 1,000 year reign of Christ as described in revelation. Maybe you've never heard of it, maybe you're confused by the thought of it, maybe you don't understand the purpose of it, or maybe you’re fascinated by it. Regardless of where you are in your consideration of this wonderful and intriguing promise, I think you'll find today's discussion helpful as we dig into the question "Millen-what?" We're continuing our study on the end times, and on today's episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we're going to look at passage in the book of Daniel. Now bare with me, it is a bit challenging, but it is an important prophecy that warrants our careful examination. That's what we're doing today...digging into Daniel chapter 9.Purchase Never Give Up here.
Did you know that God has great plans for you? We get a glimpse of His plans for you in the Garden of Eden. A perfect garden where God's children, made in His image, live in perfect relationship with Him, with each other and perfected bodies in paradise. This story of the garden is more than a story...it's a picture, a description. It's a forecast of where our story is going to end up. I hope you've said yes to Christ, because when you say yes to Christ, God stamps yes on your heart. What you're about to hear is a preview of what awaits all who say yes to God. This summer on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast we’ve been talking about what we can do to give every day a chance. That can feel especially challenging on a day when things don’t go according to plan, when you’re bumped off track. Just ask the apostle Paul. You think he planned to go to prison? You think Paul said to himself, “Some time in jail would do wonders for my ministry”? Of course not! But he trusted the work of Christ. May we do the same. Thanks for joining us on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast this week. As we continue our series “Every Day Deserves a Chance,” let’s consider something that has derailed many a day – unforgiveness. Forgiving an offense doesn’t come easily, but doing so grows our understanding of grace. As you experience God’s mercy, and then share it with others, your heart begins to change. And your day has a chance.  Learn more about The Solomon Foundation here. Purchase Never Give Up here.

Hello, friend. I hope you’re having a good day. But if you’re not, perhaps today’s message will help turn that around. Here on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, we’re beginning our summer series today called “Every Day Deserves A Chance.” You’re likely familiar with the passage from Psalm 118: “This is the day the Lord has made.” But some days just don’t feel God-designed. My prayer is that over the next several weeks we’ll come to see that every day—a day at the dentist, a day your company downsizes, even a day you say goodbye to a loved one—every day deserves a chance.Buy Gospel in Life at HarperChristianResources.com/Gospel Purchase Never Give Up here.

Hello, friend. Welcome to the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast.  “What is God’s plan for me?” Have you wondered that? I don’t think I know anyone who hasn’t. We even spent several weeks on the podcast earlier this year talking about how discover and use our God-given uniqueness.  While there are so many specific ways you can spend your time serving others and building the Kingdom, the thing we know God calls us all to is to be more like Christ. The disciples learned this truth from two simple words: “Follow me.” Buy Gospel in Life at HarperChristianResources.com/Gospel Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hello friend. Welcome to the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. I’ve been a pastor for a long time—over 40 years! I’ve been asked countless questions during that time, but none more fundamental than, “Max, what do I need to know to be a Christian?”  Maybe someone you care about is asking this question. Maybe you are. Let’s consider the answer from an unlikely source – the thief who hung on a cross next to Jesus.  Buy Gospel in Life at HarperChristianResources.com/Gospel Purchase Never Give Up here.
Thanks for joining me today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. We’re wrapping up our study of Romans this week by going back to a story in 2 Samuel. King David, after Saul has died, asks if anyone from Saul’s family is still alive. The relative he finds and the invitation he extends is a beautiful picture of the invitation God extends to us. It has nothing to do with what we can offer but everything to do with who God is. Buy Gospel in Life at HarperChristianResources.com/Gospel Purchase Never Give Up here.

Here on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’ve spent the last few weeks talking about God’s great grace – what it means, who it’s for, how you get it. So now what? This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, as we continue our study of Romans, we’re looking at God’s covenant with Abraham. A covenant made long before the life and ministry of Paul. “For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.” In Romans chapter 7, verses 18 and 19, Paul perfectly describes our inner struggle. We want to live in a way that honors God, yet find ourselves mired in old temptations. And we begin to question if we ever really understood salvation at all. If this sounds familiar, hear me, friend: the grace that saved you initially is enough to sustain you eternally.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
I’m so glad you’re joining me today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast because we’re talking about my favorite subject – grace.  Maybe you’ve walked with God for a long time. Maybe you’re just beginning to ask questions about the Bible. No matter where you find yourself, Paul’s letter to the Romans is for you. And in the next few episodes, we’ll explore his writing about the great grace of God – what it is, why we need it, and how it changes our lives. Because it really does. It certainly changed mine. The last few weeks on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’ve been talking about the gifts and abilities God gives each of us. Identifying and using our gifts is important, but more important is remembering our gifts aren’t about us. As Paul writes in Ephesians chapter 4, “And Christ gave gifts to people—he made some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to go and tell the Good News, and some to have the work of caring for and teaching God’s people. Christ gave those gifts to prepare God’s holy people for the work of serving, to make the body of Christ stronger.” Purchase Never Give Up here.
Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re talking about an idea that eludes so many of us – contentment. It’s hard, isn’t it? We watch our co-worker get promoted, our neighbor come home in the new car, not to mention every time we go on social media it looks like everyone else is living the good life. Friend, if you’re struggling with contentment, the story of David and Goliath—I know, not where you thought I was going with this—has some encouragement for you. Purchase Never Give Up here.
In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re looking at one of the final parables recorded in the book of Matthew. In it, Jesus tells a story about a master who gives different amounts of money to his servants. But the story isn’t really about the money; it’s about how the servants used what they were given. God has given each of us unique gifts, along with an assignment to use those gifts well. And when you use your gifts to build something or teach someone, you honor the Giver.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we are diving into Galatians Chapter Six. There, Paul writes, “Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” In other words, only you can be you. And you can only be you. You cannot be anyone else. That is the message of today’s episode: be you, my friend, so that through you, others may see who God is. Purchase Never Give Up here.

Welcome back to a new episode of The Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast.   Multiple times in his New Testament letters, Paul uses the analogy of the human body to explain unity in the church. It is a great illustration – we understand if a foot tried to be a hand or an eye tried to be an ear, the body would not work as designed. The ear is not better than the eye, rather both help us to function in and appreciate the world around us. Purchase Never Give Up here.
In this week’s episode of The Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we are looking at what Jesus has to say to someone who has grown weary with their work. Thanks for joining me for another episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. Today we return to Matthew chapter one and learn a bit more about Joseph. We learn why Joseph was chosen to be the earthly father of Jesus. It’s not because he was well-known or well-spoken or well-educated. But he was more concerned with obedience to God than what people thought of him. May we all aim to be more like Joseph. Purchase Never Give Up here.
If your faith could use a lift this holiday season, join us here on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast for the next few weeks. We’ll spend some time in the book of Matthew as we study and celebrate the arrival of Jesus. This week, we focus on the genealogy of Jesus. We see how Matthew turns a boring genealogy into an uplifting theology. Purchase Never Give Up here.
In today's episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we look at the Apostle Paul's instructions in Philippians 4 to "Come to God with Thanksgiving". He suggests that being thankful makes us happier, and less anxious. Sounds like a good reason to focus on gratitude, today and every day. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we conclude our series studying the life of Jacob, and it seems fitting we do so by looking at his death. I know, not exactly a fun topic. But Genesis tells us something important about Jacob’s death. Jacob, for all his foibles and flaws, died by faith. At the end of his life, he worshiped. I don’t know exactly what that looked like, but I know I’d like the same to be said of me someday.  National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is November 13-20. Click HERE to learn more. Today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast finds Jacob confronting his checkered past. He didn’t want to. He didn’t want to face the brother he had tricked all those years before. If you, like Jacob, are afraid or ashamed to face your past, remember this promise: anyone who is in Christ has become a new person.  National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is November 13-20. When I first began writing a book about Jacob, the working title was Faith with a Limp thanks to the story in today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. It’s the story of a strange, but significant experience in Jacob’s life. It took me a while to make sense of this story, but over the years I’ve learned we all have moments when we learn what Jacob learned that night by the river. Israel is under attack. Just the announcement was enough to heavy our hearts. Perhaps you, like I, have been unable to turn away from the news reports. But there is good news: Jesus, the one who warned of these days, will deliver us from these days. Purchase Never Give Up here.
Thanks for joining us for another episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast.  In this episode, we’re talking about family. Perhaps you’ve known your share of family drama. Jacob’s family knew drama. And yet, they might be the most influential family in history – the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Their story reminds us God works through even the most crooked family tree.  Max shares more of Jacob’s story and God’s never-ending grace in his new book God Never Gives Up on You. Thanks for joining us for another episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. You’ve heard it said, “We reap what we sow”? Jacob certainly experienced this. God used it to shape him, to teach him, to sanctify him. Thanks for joining us for another episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast. We have a tendency to try to negotiate with God. We say things like, “If I get this job, I’ll be kinder to my spouse.” I’ve done this. Jacob did this – we see it in Genesis 28 when he says, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord will be my God.” But God isn’t like us; he isn’t transactional. And I’m so glad he isn’t.  Max shares more of Jacob’s story and God’s never-ending grace in his new book God Never Gives Up on You. In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we find Jacob as a fugitive. He’s fled his home, running away from his angry brother. He’s penniless and in an unfamiliar land. But in this most unexpected place, Jacob encounters God in a dream. God met Jacob when Jacob wasn’t even looking for him, and God will meet you too.  Max shares more of Jacob’s story and God’s never-ending grace in his new book God Never Gives Up on You. In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, Max shares a story about a time in college when he used a shortcut to get what he wanted. Spoiler alert: It didn’t work out too well for him. Jacob used a shortcut too. He was impatient, and he manipulated his family to get his way. It didn’t work out well for them either. Friend, there are no shortcuts with God. He doesn’t need our help to speed up his plans. Don’t take matters into your own hands. Be obedient and wait on the Lord.  Max shares more of Jacob’s story and God’s never-ending grace in his new book God Never Gives Up on You. Visit MaxLucado.com for more information. In past episodes of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’ve talked about praying for our children and speaking encouraging words to our spouses. These things are so important, and, by God’s grace, we’ll do them often. But what about when it’s really, really hard? The Bible has something to say about this too: Love bears all things. In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re talking about how we talk. The words we say to one another, especially to our spouse and to our family, have a tremendous impact.  Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life is in the power of the tongue.” What we say to the people closest to us matters. Parenting. It’s a challenging, worry-inducing job. But it’s not one you’re left to do alone. In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re talking about the power of a praying parent. For many of us, mid-August means summer is coming to a close. We’re planning for back-to-school or fall work projects. As we prepare to resume busier schedules and stricter routines, we’re going to spend the next few weeks on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast talking about God’s plan for home and family. More outside demands for our time and attention makes now a great time to remember that the family is God’s idea, and in our homes, he does his most sanctifying work.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
In the last episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we focused on the father of the prodigal son. Today we’re looking at the older brother, the responsible one who stayed home and did what was expected, and honored his family. Jesus included the older brother character to remind us we don’t decide who’s in and who’s out. The father recognized his son, even when he stumbled toward him, dirty and broken. And the dutiful older brother? Well, he was still invited to the party.    Purchase Never Give Up here.
Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast we’re continuing our study of Luke 15. Most of us know the story of the prodigal son – the boy who rebelled and left home. But just as central to the story is the father who eagerly awaited his return. If your heart needs a reminder of God’s passionate love for you, I pray this episode encourages you.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
In the next few weeks on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re going to look at some of Jesus’ most well-known teaching – the Lost and Found parables in the gospel of Luke. Think about how disappointing or discouraging it is to lose something important to you. Now think about how happy and relieved you are when you find it. What do you do? You celebrate, right? If you rejoice when a precious item is returned to you, can you imagine how God celebrates when his children return to him?  Purchase Never Give Up here.
Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re spending another week in Matthew chapter 6, studying what Jesus has to say about stuff. Our world is full of stuff; it’s part of life. Most of us like our stuff, and that’s ok. The Bible doesn’t tell us we can’t enjoy possessions, but it does offer some guidance about how those possessions fit into our lives. How can we own things without things owning us? Well, the first thing to remember about all that stuff? It’s not yours.   Purchase Never Give Up here.
Hi, friend. I sure hope you’re doing well. Today’s episode zeroes in on one of my favorite words in John 3:16: “whoever.” Whoever believes in him. Such a wonderful promise. Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast we’re talking about one of the most profound parts of a life of faith: prayer. Would you like to worry less? Maybe even not worry at all? It’s possible! The past several weeks on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast we’ve been talking about receiving the love of God, about drinking deeply from his well of love so that we can love and serve others. Receiving God’s love means trusting in what he offers, and, according to Scripture, he offers you a worry-free life. I pray this episode helps you to remember God’s faithfulness and experience his peace.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re taking a look at the promise Paul shares in Romans chapter 8: that nothing, no bad circumstance or bad decision, can separate us from the love of Christ. Not much in life stays the same. We change, our friends change, and the world around us changes. But not God; God doesn’t change. It’s foundational to his character – he’s the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.    In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, I encourage you to anchor yourself to God’s unwavering strength and unchanging love and trust he will hold you.  New episodes release every Monday. Today on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, we’re exploring the profound depth of God’s love. My prayer for you as you listen echoes Paul in Ephesians chapter 3: “And may you have the power to understand how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.” May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. If you ever wonder if God has a place for those who doubt, and those who struggle, Scripture has plenty of examples for you. The disciples, who spent more time with Jesus than anyone, needed proof of his resurrection. And Jacob, who encountered God in miraculous ways when he wasn’t even looking for him, still had dark chapters in his story. If you can relate, I pray this episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast reminds you just how far God’s grace reaches.  National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is November 13-20. Do you remember when you had to go inside the gas station and pay the attendant to put gas in your car? In this week's episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, I share a story about the transition to “pay the pump” some years ago and the lesson it brought to mind about how to fill an empty tank.  Our spiritual tanks get empty too, but God has shown us where to go to fill up. If you’re out of gas, the Bible has a word of encouragement for you.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, we're going to be meditating on the words from Jesus, “Abide in me.” He says this over and over in John 15. It must be important. But what does it mean? In today’s episode, we’re looking at what means to live connected to Christ. Not just be around him or near him, but truly connected. To make him your home, to take shelter in the walls of Jesus, and to be transformed by his love. Purchase Never Give Up here.
This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, we're going to be discussing the saying, “you are what you eat.” I’m going to make a small edit for our purposes today: “you are what you drink.” And you can choose what you drink. This episode talks about one of those big church words: “sanctification.” Turning down the cups of anxiety, anger, and guilt, that show up in your life. And instead accepting what the Holy Spirit offers – to drink from the rivers of living water. Purchase Never Give Up here.
This week on the Max Lucado Encouraging Word podcast, we're continuing our Come Thirsty Series. You know it’s important to stay hydrated, don’t you? We’re coming up on summer, and here in South Texas, that means brutally hot days are around the corner. Down here, if you don’t drink enough water, your body will suffer. The same is true of your soul. It needs to be hydrated. Jesus does for your soul what water does for your body – come in, invade every little part, and give you what you need to live. Moms are special, aren’t they? That's exactly what we're talking about on this week's episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast.  If you’ve ever felt cared for or protected, chances are good a mom had something to do with it. Thank God for moms.  Or maybe that doesn’t feel so true for you. On a day when many people celebrate the mom they love or the mom they love being, we know others wait eagerly for the holiday to pass. But no matter what feelings such days stir in you, may I remind you of God’s great motherly love for you? His affection for you is so deep; he does not forget you. In our last few episodes of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’ve been revisiting some messages Max shared with his church based on the twenty-third Psalm. Today we’re looking at the final promise in this cherished passage: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  As he concludes his song of praise, the psalmist reminds us this place we live now is temporary, and our forever home awaits us. We just don’t belong here. Now, hopefully, this life provides more than just a few moments of joy, but it’s still a short-term solution. Jesus Christ offers an eternal one. He is preparing a place for you, and he is coming to take you home.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re discussing some of the sweetest words in the Bible…Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. This phrase from Psalm 23 reminds us that the love of God pursues us. His love comes after us. His love follows us.  Do you believe that? I know you may not feel it every day, but do you believe it? Do you trust it? Today’s episode is for anyone who needs to hear that God loves you, he sees you, and he’s calling to you. I pray it encourages your heart.   Purchase Never Give Up here.
In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re discussing how the last few years have revealed a lot about us. Perhaps, more than anything, we’ve learned how isolated so many people are and how lonely they feel. If this describes you, if you ever find yourself convinced that no one cares, that no one can help you, hear you, or heed your call, then Psalm 23 has some encouragement for you.  Max studied the twenty-third Psalm not too long ago with his church in San Antonio, at a time when we all needed words of comfort and hope. But this well-known, well-loved Psalm is timeless. No matter what you’re facing today, let this promise from the middle of David’s poem wash over you: You are with me.  Purchase Never Give Up here.
In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re continuing our study of the twenty-third Psalm.  Do you ever have trouble sleeping? So do sheep. They, like so many of us, need their environment to be just right before they can sleep. But sheep can’t create this environment. The psalmist David knew this. He was a shepherd before he was a king. He knew sheep need help to rest. Psalm 23 reminds us just how much like sheep we are. They need their shepherd to do for them what they cannot do for themselves. If this sounds familiar, if you’ve ever wondered if you could ever do enough to finally rest, this message is for you. Purchase Never Give Up here.
In today’s episode of the Max Lucado Encouraging Word Podcast, we’re taking a look at the twenty-third Psalm. Max shared these messages with our church in San Antonio, Texas a while back, in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, at a time when so many of us were weary and worried. But many of us are still weary and worried, aren’t we? We could use a dose of comfort and strength from this beloved passage, a reminder of our unchanging shepherd. Purchase Never Give Up here.
