Larry Brooks was 12 years old and in the 5th grade when his mother, aunt and mother's boyfriend were murdered in the living room of his home. He's an often overlooked victim in this case. He was courageous enough to come out of his room after the attack, and call 911. He told the first responding officers what he had seen and heard, but rather than conducting an actual thorough investigation, the detectives on the case used Larry as a pawn in their attempt to fabricate a case against Chris Bynum. On February 17, 2000 tragedy struck Gary, Indiana. While the city of Gary is known to be a violent place, the events of this night were particularly awful. Five people were murdered across two different crime scenes, within hours of each other. The Detectives on the case quickly determined that the murders were all connected, and arrested a man named Chris Bynum for the crimes within hours, before any meaningful investigation or any forensic testing could be completed. Chris has now been in prison for these murders for 25 years, even though all evidence revealed since his trial indicates that he is most certainly innocent. I'm reposting this interview from a few years ago with former Benton Harbor Police Officer, Andrew Collins. In 2017 Marcellus Williams avoided being executed for a crime he did not commit by just 4 hours. Bob covered his case at the time, and engaged the Truth & Justice Army in the fight to free this innocent man. This is Jennifer Pusateri's full and unedited interview from 2/27/99.  According to the official record, Jenn was first approached by Police at her house on the evening of Feb. 26.  At that point, she told them that she was busy, but agreed to go down to the station to be interviewed later.  She then went to the police station around 9pm on the 26th.  In that interview she told the Detectives that she didn't know anything about Hae's murder.  The next morning, Jenn and her mother met the Detectives at her attorney's home where she was interviewed a second time.  After that, everyone went to the Police station and Jenn was interviewed a third time.  That third interview was recorded, and that's what you will be hearing in this episode. Bob interviews Jesse Crosson. At 18 years old Jesse pled guilty to robbery and unlawful wounding, which carried a max sentence of 16 years in prison. The Judge however decided to make an example of Jesse, and sentenced him to twice the max penalty, 32 years. Jesse turned his life around in prison. He worked hard to earn a Bachelors degree, and committed his time to helping educate other prisoners. He even started a podcast called "Pre-Zen: Lessons from Lockup" while incarcerated. This past August, he was granted clemency from Governor Ralph Northam. He's now dedicated his life to prison reform, using his experiences from the inside to guide his quest.
