However, it also preserves his little-remembered follow-up letter, in which he apologized for his wording, praised the Marines' combat record, and reaffirmed his support for maintaining the Marine Corps as a distinct and vital branch of the U.S. military. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has blocked the promotions of four Army officers who had been selected for promotion to brigadier general (one-star rank), according to reporting by The Hill cited by NewsNation.
